Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process that allows the competencies you already possess to be recognised, regardless of how you obtained them. This might relate to skills developed through formal training but is most useful for recognition of skills acquired through work experience and other life experiences.
RPL suits people who have industry relevant:
- work skills or knowledge
- paid or unpaid work experience
- life experience
- community work experience
RPL may provide you with a full or part qualification and avoid duplication of training. It could be used to identify what training you may need to complete a qualification, or could provide a pathway to higher qualifications for people with limited access to training.
Your RPL Assessor can discuss evidence you will need to provide with your application, should you wish to apply for recognition. In many cases, RPL will only provide credit for the off-the-job or coursework component of the unit. You may still need to complete the on-the-job component, assessed at work.
